No travel chat yet? Let's put an end to that!

Where do you stay while in Vegas?

It depends for me, sometimes I'm in town for work and I just need someplace cheap, other times I'm there for fun and like to splurge a bit.

The places I've stayed most often are probably the Stratosphere and the Sahara, neither is extravagent, but both fairly nice and both are very reasonable on the pocket book. I've stayed at the Orleans several times also and found it to be very nice too (and affordable).

Nicer places that I really enjoyed are the Palms and the Hard Rock, much younger crowd (and very attractive), great vibe, very fun. MGM is okay too (great location).

I don't bother with the real expensive places like the Bellagio and Wynn, seems like there are better things to spend my money on while in Vegas than a place to sleep (and that's really about all it is).

I tend to stay away from the downtown area, although the Golden Nugget is very nice.

I just got a flyer in the mail from South Coast, it looks new, anyone got the scoop on that place?

How about the rest of you?

Where I stay depends on my travel party and plans.

If I'm with my sweetie I go for the new glitz hot spots. We did Wynn in Jan06.

If with a buddy we usually pick some place older and central like the Flamingo or Ballys for the location.

When alone like next week, it's all about the rate for me. So I'm in the Luxor tower for poco dinero.

We usually stay at the Stratosphere when in town. Not a 5 star resort but a very nice place. It's also within walking distance of the Olympic Garden thumbup

I stay at places that get demolished. I used to stay at the Days Inn behind Bally's; it burned down shortly after they lost their casino license. Then I switched to the Boardwalk; a significant step up for me, but MGM decided they'd rather not own a budget resort on the Strip. In the spring of this year I stayed at the Flamingo; Harrah's wants to raze the entire block to compete with City Centre, the MGM project that is going up where the Boardwalk used to be. On my most recent trip I stayed at Bally's; rumored to be next in line for Harrah's wrecking ball. Crying or Very sad

I'm thinking about seeing if I can finance my next trip with donations from people who want to see Circus Circus go away. Laughing

I have to admit it, I hate spending the money for the nice hotels. I've stayed at quite a few when they were reasonable.

Then I moved to staying primarily at the Stratosphere, good prices and a nice place. A few years later moved over to Arizona Charlies on Decatur (owned by the Stratosphere).

To save money on lodging, even at the expensive hotels. Sign up on line to join their players club. They will mail you discounts right off and this has been for everyone i've signed up with. If i've used up the discounts or the times were not right, I always book online through one of the hotel discount sites. Huge savings i've found.

I should say that when I come to town, I always rent a car. I like to be very mobile and with the price of cabs what they are you can easily cover the cost of the car with one cab ride, then you have the car for the rest of the day. If you are able to become a blue chip member at Thrifty, it's great. I get the best prices, I make sure they are in line with everyone else and if not, they will match the deal. I get the shuttle from the airport, tell the driver I'm Blue chip, he radios ahead notifing the office, I pick a car out of the full size row, procede to the gate, the paper work is waiting, I sign and I'm on my way. No hastle, no lines. But I think you need to be involved in business to become blue chip, I could be wrong though.

My new deal; I stay about 12 to 14 nights per year in Vegas, so I started watching timeshares on ebay. After about a month I found the right deal and was the high bidder. I visited this place about 4 years ago since they gave me $100 to go through their pressure sell. They about hated me when I left, I had a great time LOL. Well, I bought two weeks in a lock out unit at Club de Solei. That means one week in a one bedroom condo and one week in a studio (three or four night minimum stay). I stayed there last week, it was great having a kitchen, washer and dryer, whirlpool tub in the bathroom ect... It's on Tropicana 3 blocks west of Decatur. Price; $3400 and includes the first years lodging, then it's $480 per year. That's $34.28 per night if I use all 14 nights. I can also trade for useage in any of 3600 other properties around the world. BTW, when I looked at this 4 years ago it was $30 grand. I feel for the people that paid this, what a waste.

Don't mean to make this sound like a Stratosphere/Sahara lovefest, but... Smile
Nov '05 booked Sahara thru expedia. Nice hotel, reasonable price, still on strip (a bonus), but quite the WALK. Thorougly satisfied, though.
Jan '06 week of the Consumer Electronics Show! I booked this time off work, not realizing a mega convention was in town! I finally found a good rate at the Stratosphere thru Vegas.com. Glad to hear a couple good reviews here...it seems pretty plain jane but still relatively new and on the strip (pretty similar N. location relative to Sahara). We'll see!

Last year I stayed at Hooter's in July. Nice room, appropriate for trip with the guys or a fun lovin' girl - but not for the romantic type. WOULD RETURN.

Last trip I started @ the Plaza. Jeez.

Pros: Great location, great price for NCAA 1st & 2nd rounds, no smell of note, adequate beds.

Cons: Interior was worn, stained, carved, and just plain dumpy. Cable had about 12 channels - no porn. No safe. Appropriate for degenerate gambling downtown. LAST RESORT.

Then I moved to the TI. Wow.
Pros: great location, great service, great restaurants, great CWs, great casino, great, Great, GREAT.

Cons: Pricey. Appropriate for the wife, or better yet mistress or girlfriend. WOULD RETURN.

I'm going back in Oct and am considering Southpoint, Casino Royal, Riviera - any opinions?

For more budget-oriented stays, people who have visited me liked Palace Station, Stratosphere, and Treasure Island. Apparently TI has a some heavily discounted rates on some of the travel package websites. Imperial Palace has a good central strip location but mixed reviews, with two parties who visited me saying it was a great value, but one not liking it because they thought it was a bit run down.

Because I'm a local, I don't stay ever, but because I gamble way too much, I do occasionally get rooms comped for guests. I still think the Bellagio is the best overall hotel and still better than the Wynn, so if a really good friend of mine is coming in, I usually comp them there.

I went to Vegas just at the end of April and stayed at Excalibur. It's a decent hotel if you're wanting to save money. Although, I have to say, the hallways look kind of creepy old with those lantern lights mounted on the walls but I suppose it's part of their medieval theme. The hotel is at the southern end of the strip so we had to cab all the time if we were wanting to go to the other end of the strip like where Wynn is. I know the bus is cheaper and there's a bus that runs along the strip but cabbing was just so much more convenient and not that expensive since we had 5 guys to split the cost.

While I was planning my trip I noticed that Stratosphere had some pretty good deals but it's so far up the strip that we didn't bother since it was our first time in Vegas and we wanted to check out the strip. Perhaps next time we might stay there. Looks like it's not too far away from the strip club area Wink

One hotel that I've been curious about is Luxor since all the hotels I've ever stayed at were rectangular. Anyone here ever stayed at Luxor or have any opinions?

By the way, has anyone here ever stayed at the Travelodge on the strip or have any feedback about the place?

I just returned from a stay at the Plaza. I really liked it there. The room was a little bigger than most. I too like a shower with plenty of water and pressure. It had both. I had a freemont experience view room and that was really good. I thought the staff was very friendly. The buffet is very good and Main street station also has a great breakfast, and the best thing was the location. The downtown area is great.

I have stayed at the flamingo and Excalibur. Flamingo was nice but the walk from the parking garage was about 1/4 mile. No joke. The pool area was always too crouded too. The resturant was not good and very expensive.

Excalibur is a nice place. parking is good and the walk is ok. It's interesting if you get a strip view. You will get to see the airport at work.

The plaza was 30 a night
Flemingo was 50 and Excalibur was 55.

The plaza is my pick as I'd rather spend my money doing other things.

Whoops. Forgot about this page.

In July I stayed at the Fitz Downtown. Nicely appointed, GREAT location, decent gambling. A step up from my room at the Plaza in March. Parking garage is a bitch. Drive slowly. WOULD RETURN. I hear the 4 Queens and Fremont are worth looking into also.

Then I went to Hooters again. Still my fav for that end of the strip. Unless you're with your GF.

Places I've stayed in the past couple years:

The Rio- Decent rates for a major hotel. It's a long hike from parking garage to the hotel elevators. Rooms are larger than normal- they call them "suites" but it's just a big room with a couch and chair. Last time I stayed there they were remodeling the rooms and it was very noisy. That should be done by now.

Hard Rock: Rooms are very expensive and less than you'd expect for the price. The hotel and casino are full of young posers, wannabees and douchebag punks. Lots of trashy babes to ogle though. I only stayed there because a company I worked with was picking up the tab for a convention. I wouldn't pay for it on my own.

Bally's: Nice room, mid level upscale feeling. Decent deals can be found on rooms. Parking is FAR away from the hotel- consider using the valet- it's worth a couple bucks tip to save the hike.

Orleans: Cheap room but bad customer service and the rooms are loud. No sound insulation in this place. You can hear people snoring and fucking all night. Casino caters to locals so you can get some good paying video poker and slots. Low limit blackjack, etc. you can't get on the strip. Cheap buffets- quality is on par with the price.

I prefer the downtown/Fremont St area to stay.
I signed up for a Players Card at Fitzgerald's about three years ago and ever since, they send me coupons for free stays of 3 to 4 nights about two or three times per year. I am sure gambling at Fitzgerald's helps with this.
Fitzgerald's is probably a 2-star hotel, but it is just fine for me as I truly use the room for little other than to sleep and take a shower. The rooms also feature a free in-room safe which is a decent feature.
I like the Fremont St area because of the close proximity between the casinos and because it seems to be easier to find single deck blackjack down there than it is on the strip (if somebody knows other places that offer single deck I would love to hear your suggestion).

The only other hotel I have stayed at downtown was the Vegas Club, and I will likely try to avoid staying there again.
